At Lady Elliot Island on the Great Barrier Reef, you can step off the beach and snorkel, swim or dive in an underwater holiday world of brilliantly coloured species of marine life, or just simply relax and soak in the natural island atmosphere. The lagoon protects and nurtures the curiosity of the beginners while a little further out experienced snorkellers and divers descend to see the Coral Sea.

Lady Elliot Island is one of only six island resorts on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia, and one of only three with direct flight access to the island airstrip. The island is located within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in the highest possible classification of Marine National Park Zone by GBRMPA. Lady Elliot is an island teeming with life and live corals, famous for a resident population of 40 Manta Rays, which form the iconic logo of the island.

Lady Elliot is an island dedicated to the preservation of the natural environment of the Great Barrier Reef our goal is to work in harmony with nature for the benefit of future generations of Australians. As one of the few places left in the world where you can still see and interact with LIVE coral, we feel there is a great need to preserve this for future generations.

Tour the reef in a glass bottomed boat, learn to scuba dive, feed the fish, take a guided reef walk or stroll to a deserted beach and live the dream. With exceptionally clear water year round, you may encounter turtles, dolphins and a large variety of coral, fish and giant manta rays. If you are there for the right season you may see birds nesting, turtle hatchlings emerging from the sand or migrating humpback whales blow and breech.

Accommodation at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort
Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort offers a range of different styles of accommodation. The Eco Cabins are permanent safari-style tents offering all the comforts of home with four bunk beds, polished timber floors, full power and lighting. Communal bathrooms are located near by. The Reef and Garden Units are slightly elevated with ensuite bathroom suitable for couples and small families alike and the Island Suites are air-conditioned with absolute beach frontage.

Island Suites
Relax in your very comfortable accommodation, beachfront on the Great Barrier Reef. The spacious two bedroom suites accommodates up to four people. Enjoy a glass of wine on the private balcony at the end of a warm tropical day as you spend time enveloped in the island experience. Enjoy your own separate air-conditioned lounge with lagoon views over Sunrise Beach. The kitchenette consists of a bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and basin. The main bedroom (queen bed) has lagoon views while the second bedroom (two single beds) has island views. The two bedroom suite has a spacious bathroom which includes a shower, hairdryer and double 240V shaver plug point.

Reef and Garden Units
Arranged in blocks of three, the Reef and Garden Units are ideal for couples or small families, offering either queen beds or a combination of a queen and bunk-style beds with all linen supplied. Each unit is slightly elevated, featuring polished timber floors, ensuite bathrooms and a balcony with to make the most of the views. The Reef Units are less than 10 metres from Sunrise Beach and Garden Units within 20 to 30 metres walk to the beach. The units are fan cooled and have a mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities for your convenience.

Shearwater Rooms
Suitable for large families and groups of friends, Shearwater Rooms are set in the gardens, located approximately 30 metres from Sunrise Beach, and can sleep up to six people in bunk-style single beds with all linen supplied. Each room is fan cooled and features polished timber floors, large glass sliding doors, a private bathroom and a balcony set with table and chairs.

Eco Cabins
Situated within 20 to 30 metres of Sunrise Beach, the Eco Cabins are roomy, permanent safari-style tents with polished wooden floors. Each hut caters to four people with two sets of double bunk single beds with all linen supplied. Electric lighting and power points are available in every cabin as well as a freestanding fan. A small entry patio is furnished with chairs and table for added relaxation.

Day Trips
The Lady Elliot Island Great Barrier Reef day trip is the only one of its type in Australia. The visit allows you to view one of the most pristine sections of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef from the air as well as from above and below the water all in one day.

The day visit begins from the Gold Coast, Brisbane or Sunshine Coast with an early pickup from your hotel. We take to the air with Seair for a scenic coastal flight to Lady Elliot Island, a true coral cay on the southern Great Barrier Reef, overflying Fraser Island. Flights depart Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, 1770 at approx 8:10am.

The day trips to Lady Elliot Island include your scenic flight, snorkel equipment, hot and cold buffet lunch, 1x glass bottom boat trip or guided snorkel tour, fish feeding, guided reef walk (low tide) and 5-6 hours on the Island.

Diving at Lady Elliot Island
Lady Elliot Island is internationally renowned for the best visibility on the Barrier Reef, 40 resident Manta Rays and The Severence Wreck dive. The coral cay represents one of the most pristine and untouched sections of the Great Barrier Reef and is free of some of the threats facing other sections of the reef such as coral bleaching and crown of thorns starfish.

Lady Elliot Island offers a great diversity of uncrowded, easily accessible dive locations to experience the biggest coral reef system in the world. Visibility is over 30 metres for much of the year and encounters with giant Manta Rays, Green and Loggerhead Turtles and other incredible marine life are a daily occurrence.

At Lady Elliot Island, our experienced dive staff personally escort all dives. We schedule three dives per day with optional night dives available. Our PADI dive shop offers courses to cater to all levels of experience.

Bird Watching
An amazing array of sea birds choose Lady Elliot Island, on the Great Barrier Reef, to mate and raise their young every year. Regular guided tours allow guests to learn about the delicate balance at play in this ecosystem from their migration to their more unique characteristics. The excellent close up opportunities for photographers is realised everyday during the season.

The island is a breeding and nesting ground for many species of tropical seabirds and wading birds. The crested terns lay their eggs in the open, while bridled terns and silver gulls prefer to nest under shrubs. Black-naped terns are also common on the island along with the spectacular brown boobies, lesser frigatebirds and a small colony of red tailed tropic birds.

Bird Season – October to April - An array of sea birds choose Lady Elliot Island to mate and raise their young every year. Regular guided tours allow guests to learn about the delicate balance at play in this ecosystem from their migration to their more unique characteristics. The excellent close up opportunities for photographers is realised everyday during the season.

Coral Spawning – November - Every year in late Spring, early Summer, the Great Barrier Reef turns on a spectacular event: Coral Spawning. Many corals spawn in a mass synchronised event not known in any other part of the animal kingdom.

Marine Wonderland – May - Although the colour and beauty of the Great Barrier Reef is on your doorstep all year round, water visibility during May and June is excellent. Compare our average visibility of over 30 metres and warmer water than the Southern states during summer.

Turtle Nesting – November to February - Every year the Green and Loggerhead Turtles lumber up the same beach on which they were born more than 50 years ago. These gentle giants nest on Lady Elliot Island up to nine times in a season, laying between 80 and 120 eggs per clutch. Under the careful guidance of our Turtle Rangers, guests of all ages can experience this amazing phenomena.

Turtle Hatching – February to April - At the end of the nesting season thousands of baby turtles push through their sand nest on their way to the sea. This wonder of nature occurs only metres from the resort beach front balconies and can be observed at close quarters by all.

Migrating Whales – From June to October these graceful creatures migrate past Lady Elliot Island. Regular sightings occur on the scenic flights, whilst snorkelling and diving from the diving boat and from the Island's beaches. Almost daily during the season, whale songs can be heard under the water while swimming around Lady Elliot Island.

Bundaberg to Lady Elliot Island
Seair offers exclusive flights from Bundaberg to Lady Elliot three times daily. The flight is approximate 30 minutes. Check in at the Sunstate Terminal, Bundaberg Airport. Please check in 30 minutes prior to departure. At the centre of the sugar cane country is Bundaberg, or “Bundy” as it is more fondly know, which is famous for its 110 year old rum distillery. Qantaslink operate daily flights connecting Bundaberg to Brisbane – we can arrange this and connecting flights into Brisbane.

Gold Coast to Lady Elliot Island
