ITINERARY
DAY 1: Kununurra (LD)
Today is arrival day into Kununurra. Kununurra WA is untamed and adventurous and the gateway to some of Western Australia's remarkable natural attractions. With sizzling red soil, wide open blue skies and rugged bush scenery, this place will enliven your senses. On arrival, make your way to the hotel. We will enjoy a welcome dinner this night and an opportunity to meet your fellow adventurer’s. Next two nights: Kununurra Country Club
DAY 2: Kununurra (BLD)
Today is spent exploring the history of this town and surrounding region. Highlights today include a morning cruise on Lake Argyle and a visit to the old Durack Homestead. This afternoon is spent in and around Kununurra, an irrigation town (Ord River) built in the 1960’s but with a history connected to the Durack Family.
DAY 3: Kununurra - Bungle Bungles (BLD)
An early start this morning to catch the action at Marlgu Billabong (a Ramsar site) and a visit to Wyndham and the 5 Rivers Look Out. We then head south to the Purnululu National Park, home to one of Western Australia’s most fascinating landmarks, the Bungle Bungle range. We head to the southern end of the Bungle Bungle range for a walk into majestic Cathedral Gorge, an acoustically magnificent natural amphitheatre. Next two nights: Bungles Camp
DAY 4: Bungle Bungles (BLD)
This morning there is the opportunity of taking an optional helicopter flight over the magnificent Bungle Bungle range (at own expense). Seeing these incredible rock formations from the air gives a true sense of the scale of this incredible National Park. Today we drive to the northern end of the Bungle Bungle range for a memorable day of walks into two of the Park’s best attractions. The first walk is into Echidna Chasm through a narrow gorge that reveals something new at every bend – it’s like walking through a huge gap in the landscape with sunlight bouncing off the flaming red hues of the rock walls. After lunch, we set off along a creek bed into Mini Palms to a platform atop a scenic amphitheatre for views of verdant palm trees and the valley beyond.

DAY 5: Bungle Bungles - Emma Gorge (BLD)
We retrace our steps today travelling back to the Great Northern Highway, through Turkey Creek and on to Emma Gorge. A Highlight today is the magnificent Cockburn Range, which rises rugged and fortress-like from the sandy valley of the Pentecost River. Its buttressed headlands glow a fiery orange against a sky of metallic blue. Ephemeral channels scar towering walls guarding a plateau of spinifex and concealing the unique Emma Gorge Resort, our overnight destination. Overnight: Emma Gorge Resort
DAY 6: Emma Gorge - Drysdale Station (BLD)
This morning is at leisure. For those who wish to relax, a swimming pool and lounge area shaded by native trees and landscaped gardens lie on the banks of Emma Gorge Creek. For the more adventureous, we set out on a scenic hike along the base of the gorge past butterfly-filled trees and vines beneath a towering red sandstone escarpment that leads you to a huge turquoise waterhole, perfect for a refreshing swim. Departing Emma Gorge we rejoin the Gibb River Road, lunch is at Ellenbrae Station then on to Drysdale River Station. Next two nights: Drysdale River Station
DAY 7: Drysdale Station (BLD)
Today we access the Mitchell Plateau, road conditions at the time permitting. The Mitchell Plateau is of immense cultural and biological significance. The area is rich in the well known Wandjina and Bradshaw art. The quality of the art sites here is amazing. Without doubt however, the highlight of the Mitchell Plateau is the stupendous Mitchell Falls that cascade over layers of rock into a deep pool. Today is spent exploring the falls, with the opportunity to experience an optional helicopter flight to view the Mitchell Falls. Scenic Flights are also available from Drysdale Station for those wanting a break from the bus.
DAY 8: Drysdale Station - Mt Hart Station (BLD)
Leaving Drysdale we rejoin the Gibb River Road taking time out to enjoy the various gorges, rockholes and waterfalls. Then we enter the King Leopold Ranges Conservation Park, home to Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge, set on a 10 acre oasis of beautiful lush tropical gardens and surrounded by stunning geological features, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife and rare flora and fauna. Next two nights: Mt Hart Station
DAY 9: Mt Hart Station (BLD)
This morning, an opportunity to head off on a walk to Mt Matthew Gorge. Here you can experience spectacular cascading waterfalls, explore the beautiful swimming holes or admire the fascinating array of bird and plant life. This afternoon is at leisure to relax and enjoy the peaceful surrounds of Mount Hart.
DAY 10: Mt Hart Station - Fitzroy Crossing (BLD)
From Mt Hart we cross the King Leopold Ranges, taking time out for lunch in the Lennard River area. Time then to visit Windjana Gorge, home to a large population of Johnston freshwater crocodiles which inhabit the waterhole. From here it’s on to Tunnel Creek where you will enjoy a walk into Western Australia’s oldest cave system. Tonight we stay in lush green surroundings at the Fitzroy River Lodge on the banks of the Fitzroy River. Overnight: Fitzroy River Lodge
DAY 11: Fitzroy Crossing - Derby (BLD)
This morning, we relax on an early morning cruise through the sanctuary that is Geikie Gorge, where 30 metre steep limestone walls laid down over a period of 50 million years were formed by fossilised coral reefs. If you look carefully, you can see the markings of vastly different water levels during the dry season and the ‘Big Wet’, we follow the Great Northern Highway to Derby, allowing time to visit sites of interest around this port town. DAY 12: Derby - Broome (BLD)
On the road to Broome this morning, we will visit the famous Boab Prison Tree and Myall’s Bore, where stockmen would take turns in watering their stock before loading them onto ships for export. During a guided tour and cruise at Willie Creek Pearl Farm, you will discover how the rare and beautiful Australian South Sea Pearl is produced. We enjoy a farewell dinner this evening. DAY 13: Departure day (B)
After breakfast this morning, commence your departure from Broome. Alternatively arrangements can be made to stay on in Broome.
