Whale Watch Safari - Mikat
MV Mikat offers much more than just a whale watching cruise! The name ‘Whale Watch Safari’ was carefully selected to describe the style of tour we offer:
From August to October, Hervey Bay 'the Whale Watch Capital of the World' is visited by many humpback whales during their annual migration south. Visitors come from all over the world, to cruise onboard the M.V.Mikat and view these amazing creatures in action.
MV Mikat is not just a quick cruise, a glimpse of the whales and home again, but a genuine whale tour, departing at 9.00am and returning around 2.30pm, allowing ourselves enough time to ensure, that everyone is satisfied.
The MV MIKAT is a very stable, air conditioned catamaran which has two superb walk around viewing decks, covered aft decks and a spacious bow for photography and filming these magnificent creatures. The comfortable lounge has a library of whale, dolphin and shark books and videos of Humpback Whales in Hervey Bay
You are on board a 20 metre ocean-going catamaran that handles the generally calm waters of Hervey Bay with ease. Join us, settle back and relax as the M.V. MIKAT takes you from the Great Sandy Straits Marina to Moon Point on Fraser Island, where you will enter the Hervey Bay Marine Park to enjoy your day amongst the Humpback Whales.

After a cup of coffee or tea we will give you an informative talk about the whales and dolphins you are about to meet. Not just some "dry" textbook information, but very much our own experiences since 1987, the very beginning of whale watching in Hervey Bay. To see an animal weighing some 45,000 kg or an equivalent weight of 11 elephants is educational, breathtaking, entertaining and for some, emotional.
This is merely the beginning of your WHALE WATCH SAFARI, remembering that on board the M.V. MIKAT you’ll have more time to spend amongst the whales.
There are whales to see and more behavior patterns to enjoy, breaching, spy-hopping, tail and pec-slapping and the very popular "socialising", when some whales become as inquisitive of us, as we are about these gentle giants from Antarctica. Also, you may see the ever-playful dolphins riding the bow-wave or interacting with the whales as an added bonus.
All the time your helpful crew will explain what these whales are doing and why, and advising you to have your camera ready when a breach is imminent (sometimes we even get it right!). Upon your return to Urangan Boat Harbour you're bound to agree with many satisfied whale watching safari adventurers who say - "we came, we saw, we will never forget"
