Remote and rugged, The Kimberley landscape is truly spectacular. With wide horizons, ancient gorges, picture-book rock pools and pristine beaches, it is a special place that will linger in your mind long after you have left. On your travels visit Old Halls Creek, The China Wall, Caroline Pool and Palm Springs, Saw Pit Gorge, Wolfe Creek Crater, Bungle Bungles, Marella Gorge and Purnululu National Park to name a few.
Accommodation of all styles can be found in all areas and some of these are listed below: Kununurra, Halls Creek, Gibb River Road, and Fitzroy Crossing. The numbers of rooms are quite limited at all hotels, homesteads and guesthouses and it is wise to book well in advance (12 months is not too far ahead!), especially in the peak season - June to September.
Kununurra Accommodation

Halls Creek Accommodation
Halls Creek - Halls Creek, the oasis of the Kimberley, sits on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert just 423 metres above sea level. Halls Creek was once the hub of a gold rush in the late 1800s. The smell of gold fever lingers on. Today, it is a small, predominantly Aboriginal settlement located 2977 km from Perth and roughly midway between Kununurra (365 km) and Derby (555 km).
From Halls Creek in all directions stretches a harsh and uncompromising country. From here, in the early years of the century, a long and dangerous cattle drive down the celebrated Canning Stock Route began. From here the lonely Tanami Track stretches south-east to Alice Springs. In recent years these legendary desert routes have been followed by more and more adventurous travellers.

Watch for the Brahman-hide facings and the extensive use of exposed Jarrah timbers.
The Kimberley Hotel is the first (or last) watering hole at the top of the Tanami Track - the perfect venue for a final touch of luxury before venturing into the wilderness, or for that celebration at the end of a long journey.
The hotel's 42 roomy and luxurious appointed units, like the main building, have been designed as small station homesteads. Gibb River Road Accommodation
Gibb River Road - The Gibb River Road travels nearly 700km through the central Kimberley Plateau from the King Sound at Derby to the Cambridge Gulf at Wyndham. The majority of the road surface is of dirt and gravel construction and may be rough. However, you will be rewarded with the holiday of a lifetime, see unparalleled and breathtaking scenery, and have the opportunity to meet some wonderful Australian characters.
In the Dry Season (May to October), the road can be open as early as April, or as late as June. In the Wet season (November to April) travel can be severely restricted by flooding and road closures as the countryside can become very waterlogged.

Drysdale Station
Gibb River / Kalumburu Road, North Kimberley, WA
|
|
Just 59kms North of the junction and only 1 km off the Kalumburu Road. Kununurra lies 360km to the East and Derby is 470km to the west. Drysdale is a family owned and operated million acre working cattle station, running approx. 7000 head. 2005 is our 20th year here, making our family by far the longest resident leaseholder since this land was first released. The station is open each “dry” season, approximately April to November.
We cater to visitors and offer something for everyone, something to suit all budgets. We are not a hotel, not a motel, not a farm stay, not a bed and breakfast, not a roadhouse, but we ARE an Australian outback mixture of all these things. A service centre for the North Kimberley located close to the Drysdale River. Scenic airplane flights to the Mitchell Falls, Prince Regent River and the magnificent coastline are available on demand May - September.
Accommodation
Clean and comfortable motel style rooms are configured either twin share, double or family style. There are also 2 bedroom 'units' with own bathroom which are suitable for four people. All rooms have bedding, soap and towels provided. Relax and enjoy a hot shower and comfortable rooms. Some rooms have own small private lounge. The accommodation area has it's own outdoor undercover sitting area where you can enjoy a cup of tea or socialise with others.
All meals are available from the licensed Homestead Restaurant. The beer garden, the bar or the evening log fire are great places to unwind after your trip, all are welcome.
Fitzroy River Accommodation
Fitzroy River - Located 2686 km north of Perth, 258 km from Derby and 110 metres above sea level, Fitzroy Crossing is one of those places which sprung up for a single very good reason. It was a suitable place to cross the huge Fitzroy River which, during the wet season, was capable of stranding travellers for weeks.
Fitzroy Crossing is now a small, predominantly Aboriginal settlement, a small travellers’ rest stop and a crucial ford across the still-troublesome Fitzroy River. Today it’s little more than a roadhouse stop before moving on to marvel at the sights the Kimberley has to offer - Geikie Gorge, Tunnel Creek and, most spectacularly, Windjana Gorge.
Fitzroy River Lodge
Fitzroy River, The Kimberley, Western Australia
|
|
Fitzroy River Lodge - is situated on the banks of the mighty Fitzroy River and is a welcoming sight for weary travellers. Set on 50 acres the Lodge offers excellent restaurants, bistro and cocktail bar, forty motel units, thirty safari lodges with private facilities, ninety bay caravan park, extensive camping areas, a swimming pool tennis court and Kimberley style golf course.
The Fitzroy River Lodge is a unique accommodated complex with modern units contained in four elevated buildings, surrounding a swimming pool, with parking below and a timber bridge connecting it to the 'Homestead". The design of the Lodge captures the unique appeal of a traditional pastoral station with its main service centre being the "homestead' and the accommodation being the 'out buildings'.
Each unit is fully air conditioned and also features ceiling fans, television, refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities, and bathrooms with baths and showers. The physically challenged are also catered for. In fact everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The Homestead has magnificent wide verandahs, high ceilings, exposed Oregon beams and tiled floors are only a part of the features that lie within. Here you can enjoy a drink in the lounge bar, or a game of pool. The informal dining area with bar adjoins a screened verandah and outdoor barbecue lawn area. Maxine's formal restaurant with its display of historic photographs, is used for functions, and breakfast. The Lodge is a perfect venue for conferences, meetings and special occasions.
The Safari Lodge - features solid floors with timber deck seating area, under ground power, water and sewer connections, full bathroom facilities (hot water), evaporative cooling, refrigerator, tea and coffee making, insect screening and barbecues.
Activities - Ideally positioned on the bank of the Fitzroy River one can enjoy a variety of sports and leisure activities in tranquil natural bush surrounds. The river with its abundant wildlife offers boating, swimming and is an ideal haven for those who are after the most sought after Barramundi. In the cooler period between April and October bushwalking is superb. Tours operate from here to many of the spectacular attractions including the famous Geikie Gorge National Park, Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek.
