Day 2 - Cooktown - Lakefield National Park
Dsicover a little more of Cooktown before venturing beside the escarpments of Battlecamp Road and enter the vast Lakefield National Park. A pause at Old Laura vividly portrays the hardship our pioneers endured. We anticipate seeing crocodiles in their natural environment and the Park abounds in a huge variety of birdlife. Billabongs and waterholes are plentiful as is the associated wildlife. We camp at the Normandy River. (Toilets and Showers) (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Lakefield National Park - Coen
We continue along the entire length of this 1.6 million acre National Park still seeking endemic wildlife to arrive at Musgrave Telegraph Station in time for morning tea. We cross the Bamboo range, watershed of the Great Dividing Range before arriving at our campsite in Coen. (Toilets and Showers) (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Coen - Weipa
The quaint and colourful village of Coen contrasts starkly with the relatively modern Bauxite mining township of Weipa with air-conditioned shops and sealed roads. Time this afternoon to catch up on laundry, telephone family or go fishing. Note - to avoid disappointment, fishing trips must be booked well before departure date. (Toilets and Showers) (B,D)
Day 5 - Weipa - Bramwell Cattle Station
An optional Bauxite Mine, town and lifestyle tour is recommended this morning before we travel through Batavia Downs to the Wenlock River and briefly visit Moreton Telegraph Station before arriving at Bramwell Cattle Station, famed for its true bush hospitality. Our wonderful hostess is Wendy, owner of 520 square mile property. (Bush Toilet and Swim) (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Bramwell - Twin Falls
The original Overland Telegraph Track is traversed where the merits of our 4WD vehicles are put to the test. We cross Cockatoo and Scrubby Creeks to arrive at Twin Falls early afternoon. This is the jewel of the peninsula where we swim, hike and relax at this really beautiful spot, the Elliot River. (Pit Toilet and Swim) (B,L,D)
Day 7 - Twin Falls - Cape York
We reluctantly depart mid-morning and continue over rough roads and cross the crocodile infested Jardine River by cable ferry. We travel further north through the Aboriginal village of Injinoo and the Torres Strait Islander town of Bamaga before arriving at our Base Camp overlooking the azure, peaceful waters of Torres Strait. (Toilets and Showers) (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Base Camp - (Opt) Thursday Island
An optional tour package to Thursday Island and Horn Islands is highly recommended with Peddells Ferry Service, it has an excellent reputation and the trip is both enjoyable and rewarding. Alternatively, blue water or estuarine fishing is another option. Note;- To avoid disappointment, fishing trips must be booked well before tour departure date. (Toilets and Showers) (B,D)
Day 9 - Cape York to Cairns
Celebrations this morning as we walk the final kilometre to stand on the Australian mainland's most northerly point. A place of sheer magnificence surround by islands near and far and a brilliant turquoise sea.
