The custom-designed vessels of the Explorer Ventures fleet introduce scuba divers from around the world to some of the finest dive sites that the undersea world has to offer. From her base in Cairns, the Nimrod Explorer offers trips from 4 – 8 days along the Ribbon Reefs to Cooktown, the Cod Hole and even farther north, to the rarely visited northern reaches of the Great Barrier Reef.

Nimrod Explorer Vessel Features
Staffed by a crew of six, the Nimrod Explorer is ideally sized and equipped both for shorter trips for travellers passing through Cairns, to longer expeditions to the far reaches of the Great Barrier Reef. A twin-engine power catamaran, the vessel is spacious and very stable, and offers amenities normally seen on much larger boats. You will be hosted and looked after by the Skipper, Engineer, 2 x Dive Instructors, Chef and Host/Hostess. We have one Japanese Dive Instructor available.

The well-appointed main salon offers dining and relaxation areas, as well as a well-equipped entertainment centre and bar area. The large shaded top deck offers an open-air respite from the sun, while the expansive bow serves as a welcome warm-up between dives.

Guests are accommodated in 2 large double, 1 twin and 3 spacious quadruple cabins, each of which has ensuite facilities and plenty of storage. For longer trips, two of the three quadruple staterooms can be converted to spacious double staterooms. All cabins onboard are air-conditioned for maximum comfort no matter the temperature outside.

Master Stateroom – located on the main deck – contains one double bed and ensuite.
Twin Stateroom – located on the main deck – contains 2 x single beds and ensuite
Midship Double/Twin – located below decks in the mid-section – contains one double bed, one single bunk and ensuite.
Quad share cabins – located below decks, 1 in the port forward section, 1 in the starboard forward section and 1 in the mid-section – all contain 4 x bunk style beds, with private bathroom nearby.
V-Berth Double/Twin Cabin - This option can be made available when all double/twin cabins are already booked. We can convert our two forward quad cabins into a spacious double, or leave as is for twin share, thereby ensuring a private cabin/facilities and priced the same as our double/twin rate per person.

What to bring on MV Nimrod
Packing for a liveaboard trip in Tropical North Queensland doesn’t require much more than shorts, T-shirts and swimsuits. A warm shirt for the evenings is advisable, and a light raincoat may come in handy. From June through August, a sweater and long pants are advisable. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are recommended at all times. You might find informal attire advisable for evenings in Cairns or other destinations during your holiday; if you are planning inland excursions, be sure to bring the appropriate attire.

Soft luggage is recommended as it takes up very little space when empty. Due to weight restrictions on the low-level air flight, please limit the weight of the loaded luggage you will be taking aboard the boat to 20 kg/44 lbs. Overweight baggage may incur an additional charge.

If you have a tendency towards seasickness, come prepared with motion sickness medications. The Nimrod Explorer is a very stable catamaran although boats always have some motion.

If possible, pack your regulator, dive computer, mask, a swimsuit, change of clothes and toiletries in your carry-on bag. Having these few items with you will make an unexpected luggage delay far more bearable, and if you are arriving from overseas you may appreciate a change of clothes enroute.
