Keswick Island
Keswick Island is part of the Cumberland Group of islands that lay protected inside the waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. This beautiful tropical Queensland Island is known as the Treasured Island, being unique, pampered, sparsely populated with just 20 houses and 80 percent National Park.
The Island is fringed by colourful coral reefs with abundant marine life which provide excellent conditions for diving or snorkelling at mid low tide. Three wreck sites, including the protected historic sites of ‘The Singapore’, a two masted sail and steam vessel, and ‘The Llewellyn’, a former coastal steamer, are located a few minutes from the island by boat.
Keswick Island boasts virgin tropical forests, thriving coral reef and deep ocean passage to migrating whales and turtles. Keswick Island has remained a well-kept secret and retains her rugged natural beauty. The Great Barrier Reef coral surrounding Keswick provides magnificent snorkelling in all three bays.
Activities from Keswick Island Guesthouse
Walking - Keswick developments maintain walking tracks to four of the island’s sheltered picnic beaches: Horseshoe Bay, Connie Bay, Arthur Bay and Basil Bay. Each walk offers its own riches. The Arthur bay track winds through dense tropical vegetation and ancient trees. Connie Bays hilly climb extends to a spectacular view from North Coral passage and then winds through a stunning Melaleuca cluster. The walk to Basil Bay offers sweeping views of Egremont, Passage, St Bees, and Basil Bay, with the shaded areas and golden sands the ideal place to stop and relax.
Buggy Hire - For those wishing to explore the developed sites on Keswick Island and take in some of the more spectacular vistas, buggies are available for hire. Arrangements can be made on arrival to the island at the Keswick Island Store.
Nature - You will often see various types of butterflies on Keswick Island, but Easter is the time when the tiger blue butterflies hatch en masse and this is truly a spectacle to behold. Marvel at the amazing rocks that have formed over many years on Keswick Island, the meeting of pristine white sand and clear azure waters, old lava flows, ancient cycads and breathtaking views. See the lace monitors, large turtles and the bat colony in the mango grove near Basil Bay
Go kayaking, fishing or snorkelling as you wish.
