Home ~ Queensland ~ Montville and Maleny ~ Bamboo Retreat Maleny
Set on a forest ridge overlooking the Obi Obi Valley, Bamboo Retreat borders the 400ha Maleny National Park. Your senses will revive in the clear mountain air and simplicity of the Australian bush, far from the pressures of daily routine. You will be drawn to the quiet majesty of towering gums and find it hard to believe that you're only 15 minutes from the cosmopolitan village of Maleny, the heart of the hinterland. We invite you to enjoy the bush walks and native wildlife at your doorstep. Please treat them with respect and leave only your footprints.
Bamboo Retreat - Sunshine Coast Hinterland
Designed by Sydney architect Kevin Brady, Bamboo Retreat is totally unique - a reflection of the area’s heritage, landscape and bush. Timber for the project was sourced from the property and surrounding farms. The rough sawn boards and bush poles combine with the retreat’s luxurious fittings, furniture and fabrics to create a wonderful ambience that is rustic yet modern and very grounding.
At Bamboo Retreat - enjoy your complimentary cheese platter with wine or champagne on arrival. Share a hot tub under the stars. In the morning, your continental breakfast provisions include seasonal fruit, juice and yoghurts. A loaf of piping hot bread will be left in the gazebo at whatever time you prefer.
The studio suite, with its blend of bush timbers, luxury fittings, furniture and fabrics, is rustic yet contemporary. Combining lounge, kitchenette, bedroom and ensuite, Bamboo Retreat is designed for comfort. The king bed is made for sweet dreams with high quality fine linen, feather doona and sumptuous pillows.
The lounge area has a small library and eclectic music selection for your entertainment and a pot belly wood fire keeps Maleny’s chilly mountain nights at bay. In summer, overhead fans cool sultry nights. The fully equipped kitchenette has an indoor dining area, and the ensuite is furnished with luxury bath sheets, bathrobes, hand-made soaps and organic shampoos and shower gel.

The Bamboo Retreat Suite opens onto your own private garden with ‘hot tub’ spa, lounge chairs, and a gazebo with dining setting and Weber barbecue. You are welcome to bring your own ingredients for barbecue feasts or we can provide barbecue platters if you prefer.
Wake to the early morning kookaburra chorus and a loaf of hot fresh bread delivered to the gazebo. In the evenings you can dine by candlelight and sip champagne or your favourite wine in the spa under the stars.
What a way to unwind!
Your Hosts - Mim Coulstock and Ward Brisick look forward to welcoming you and making your stay at bamboo retreat a memorable experience.
Mim and Ward came to Maleny in 1990 after years living in the Himalayan regions of Nepal and India. While managing Bamboo Retreat, Mim is rehabilitating the 8ha hidden portion of the property, nurturing the regenerating schlerophyll and rainforest species to
provide a safe home for the abundant wildlife.
For both Mim and Ward, bamboo retreat is an adventure: a calming and beautiful environment for their children to return to, wide paddocks for their small herd of Paint horses and ever-inspiring bush views over Obi Valley to share with guests and friends.
